Accommodating the Uni Experience

Student Accommodation is central to the student experience, it plays a large part in attracting students to the university, affects how students feel and how well they do whilst they’re there and even impacts on a University’s league table position.  Student demands for high quality accommodation continue to rise whilst the increasing size of the market and the interest of investors has opened up a wide range of new options for the universities. This market has undergone nothing short of a revolution with over £10bn of commercial investment in the last decade – now half of all purpose-built beds are provided by private operators.   This has huge implications for Universities and other operators in the sector.

Cushman & Wakefield is sponsoring Henry Stewart’s one day briefing on 8 November 2018 at The Hatton, 51-53 Hatton Garden, London EC1N 8HN.   In a series of detailed briefings, they will take stock of market developments, the current market, examining trends and looking forward at what this means for the future. As Henry Stewart CEO Patricia Connelly explains “Henry Stewart briefings have a reputation for delivering hard data and expert opinion. With good information you can make the right decisions – that’s what our briefings are about. If you don’t have good data then you are at risk.”

“This is an increasingly important property sector and the day will be covering market trends, the source and nature of demand, capital values, income and yields, investment appetite and who’s investing, ongoing management – the standards now being demanded, sources of funding for new build, refurb and upgrading and the very significant issue of portfolio planning. No important area will be overlooked and there will be an extensive use of case studies to demonstrate the ‘who’, ‘what’ and ‘how’ of projects.”

“We are grateful to the briefing’s sponsors Cushman & Wakefield. Their involvement shows just how far the sector has advanced in recent years and how important it is as a property sector going forward.”

The briefing is designed for providers of university housing and onsite campus accommodation, higher education estate directors, private sector investors, developers, banks and other financiers, planners, advisors and consultants.

The one-day briefing is expected to be especially useful for University’s planning for the future.   As Andrew TC Smith, Partner and Head of the Public Sector Advisory Team at Cushman & Wakefield says “The options for universities are increasing – strategies and approach should respond to this. Whether it is in selecting joint venture partners, accessing funding on favourable terms or increasing returns, the market continues to evolve – there really are great opportunities in this sector”.
